Phalla Chan Utilizes FSET to Enter Truck Driving Profession
Phalla Chan of Janesville was a bit resistant to participate in the FoodShare Employment and Training Program (FSET), but after attending an orientation he decided to enroll. He hasn’t regretted it a bit. “It was a great learning experience,” he said. It also led directly to his new job at R.L. Leek Industries in Rockford as a Truck Driver.
With the encouragement and support from his FSET Case Manager Jodi Rich, Phalla decided to enroll in the Spirit CDL (Certified Driver’s License) training in Belvidere, IL to obtain his commercial driver’s license. He devoted many hours of time to classroom and behind-the-wheel training. After five weeks, Phalla graduated and passed his test, obtaining his Class A Certified Driver’s License.
Not only was Phalla able to take advantage of the training opportunity, he also received much-needed supportive services to cover the cost of the training tuition and transportation. Once Phalla completed his training and his certification, he began applying for positions relevant to his CDL training, which led to his R.L. Leek job.
Phalla has made significant steps in improving his self-sufficiency and gives credit to the FSET Program and Jodi for his success. We wish him the best for the future!
